The Challenge
Ignite Power, a leader in renewable energy solutions in Africa, sought to leverage its existing footprint to provide internet connectivity to underserved rural communities. The "LinX" project aimed to deploy wireless infrastructure across Rwanda, Mozambique, Kenya, Sierra Leone, DRC, and Ghana.
The complexity lay in modeling a sustainable business case for rural connectivity, which typically suffers from low ARPU and high operational costs. Ignite needed a robust financial model and strategic roadmap to secure funding and guide the rollout of nearly 12,000 sites over 6 years.
Strategic Hurdles
- Coordinating a multi-country rollout with diverse regulatory landscapes
- Ensuring financial viability in low-income rural markets
- Optimizing technical design to minimize CAPEX and OPEX
Integrated Planning
We developed a comprehensive financial and operational model that integrated technical network planning with commercial strategy, ensuring a clear path to profitability for each country unit.
Conceptual Phase
High-level ambition without detailed country-specific execution plans.
Uncertainty regarding the unit economics of rural sites.
Lack of a consolidated investment thesis for fundraising.
Investment Ready
